SQL Server BI tools for reporting & self-service analytics

Build analytics from your SQL Server relational data, or connect to the SSAS models you already use.

Kyubit gives Microsoft data environments two practical routes to browser-based BI. Create a Kyubit semantic model from SQL Server tables, or use existing Analysis Services business logic through a direct SSAS connection.

Start with the SQL Server assets you have today

Relational tables → Kyubit semantic model

Use SQL Server application tables or reporting data as the source. Define measures, dimensions and relationships in Kyubit, then process the model for self-service analysis. This route does not require a separate SSAS model.

Existing SSAS model → Kyubit reporting

Already maintain Multidimensional cubes or Tabular models? Connect Kyubit directly to SSAS and reuse the measures and hierarchies it exposes. Visit SSAS reporting tools for that workflow.

Build a semantic model from SQL Server tables

Give your team familiar business fields instead of asking every report author to reproduce joins. Choose a central fact table, connect descriptive tables, and map numeric columns to measures. Add product, customer and organizational attributes as dimensions.

For an invoice-line model, validate sales and cost totals before expanding the date range. Keep order identifiers and other detailed attributes available as Dimension Details where appropriate.

SQL Server installations with established reporting views can evaluate those objects through the supported source and query workflow. Existing SQL expertise remains useful for preparing clean data, while the visual semantic modeling makes analysis accessible to a broader team.

Move from SQL Server reports to follow-up analysis

A monthly total usually leads to another question. Which product changed? Which region accounts for the result? With a prepared model, users can rearrange the analysis instead of requesting another SQL report.

Explore and present

Drag measures and dimensions into the grid, drill through configured hierarchy levels and use slicers. Save the analysis and use Report View when colleagues need a focused presentation of the results.

Bring time into the model

Create a time dimension from an appropriate date column. Use configured date hierarchies and period analysis to put current performance in context. Decide which business date a report represents: order, invoice or shipment.

Build SQL Server dashboards around shared measures

Bring the same modeled measures into interactive dashboards. Present sales, costs and product performance with charts and KPI cards, then add slicers for the audiences using the dashboard.

For a narrower requirement, such as a chart driven by an existing query, also explore SQL-based dashboards. A shared semantic model is especially useful when users need reusable dimensions and interactive exploration across many questions.

Share saved content with authorized colleagues and configure scheduled delivery for recurring management reports.

Choose how SQL Server data enters your analytic model

Match processing to the way your records change.
Processing mode A useful starting point What to check
Full Initial load or a complete rebuild. Data volume, duration and source workload.
Partial Refresh a configured recent period. Late invoices, returns and other corrections within that period.
Incremental Add newly appended records. The configured incremental logic and how historical changes are handled.

Schedule model processing around your SQL Server workload and reporting deadlines. Dashboard refresh does not by itself import new source records into a processed semantic model. Use a representative dataset to verify totals and update behavior.

Fit BI into your Microsoft server environment

Application and source requirements

Deploy Kyubit on Windows/IIS with Microsoft SQL Server for its internal databases. Your analytical source connection and Kyubit's application databases are separate deployment concerns. Review the installation documentation for the current requirements.

Identity and access

Choose the intended SQL Server connection identity and configure Kyubit user and object permissions. Windows authentication requirements depend on deployment and connection configuration; do not assume every report viewer automatically queries under an individual database identity.

Frequently asked questions about SQL Server BI

Do I need SSAS to analyze SQL Server data with Kyubit?

No. You can build and process a Kyubit semantic model from SQL Server relational data. A separate Analysis Services cube or Tabular model is not required for that route.

Can I keep my existing SSAS cubes or Tabular models?

Yes. Kyubit also connects directly to SSAS. Use that route when your analytical measures and hierarchies already live in Analysis Services.

Can users create SQL Server reports without writing queries?

Yes. Once the semantic model is configured, business users build analyses visually with measures, dimensions and slicers. Data preparation and model validation happen during setup.

Is semantic-model reporting a live query of SQL Server every time?

The semantic-model workflow processes source data into a Kyubit analytic model. Its freshness depends on processing. Direct SQL dashboard queries are a separate workflow with their own refresh behavior.

Can I use permanent licensing for a self-hosted installation?

Kyubit offers permanent and subscription licensing. Review the current licensing pages for edition limits, Software Assurance and the terms that apply to your installation.
